Chilled water

These systems use water in the chiller system rather than refrigerant gas. RMD recommends chilled water in large data centres where high density cooling is required.

Chilled water is more efficient for such projects because:

• Free cooling using the air outside can be used with chilled water systems
• Easily scalable due to use of valves
• Lower running cost after initial installation
• More environmentally friendly

It should be noted that chilled water systems are more expensive to install than DX and are less compact.
